Nebulab is a remote-first consulting firm: we help mid-market and enterprise brands with e-commerce strategy, design and development, and almost everyone here does client work.

We hire and grow people for how well they do their work and how much they help their teammates, with no distinction of color, gender, nationality, race, disability or any other personal attribute.

The people are on our website, and the org chart on Bob shows who works with whom today.

There are two kinds of work at Nebulab:

  • Client work. Engineers, designers, Engagement Managers, Associate Partners and partners deliver our consulting to clients, and their work is what clients pay for. Delivery explains how we run it.
  • Running the company. A small Operations team looks after people operations, finance, administration, travel and company events, so everyone else can focus on clients.

Selling isn’t a separate team: Engagement Managers, Associate Partners and partners find and win clients as part of their client work.

  • Engineers design, build and maintain the software behind our client engagements, mostly e-commerce storefronts on Shopify and the systems around them.
  • Designers shape the experience and visual language of our client work, across UX and brand, working close to engineering.
  • Engagement Managers run delivery on client engagements and are the client’s main contact.
  • Associate Partners also manage a portfolio of client accounts and lead sales. The path to partnership explains how Engagement Managers become Associate Partners, and Associate Partners become partners.
  • Operations specialists run the company’s internal operations.

Engagement Managers and Associate Partners own delivery, not people. Every role has levels, and the career framework describes what each level asks for.

Four partners run Nebulab: Alberto Vena, Alessandro Desantis, Matteo Galliani and Matteo Latini. They hold the key client relationships, sell, decide the company’s direction, and work across every part of it, from client projects to operations.

Partners are also the only people managers: everyone’s manager is one of the four partners.

How it all started is in Story.

Client work happens in small, cross-functional, self-organizing teams, each led by an Engagement Manager or a partner. Everyone on a project team:

  • Works closely with the client, decoding their goals and tailoring strategies to their business objectives.
  • Works beyond their own craft, consulting, advising on best practices, scrutinizing requirements and proposing solutions to the client.
  • Collaborates daily with whoever leads the project, who oversees its progress, manages communication with the client, and makes sure deadlines are met.

Internal projects work the same way, with the same people and the same expectations: open communication, quality, and timely delivery.

Whoever leads a project isn’t necessarily the manager of the people on it. 1:1s, development plans, performance reviews and compensation conversations belong to each person’s manager, whichever project they’re on.
