Nebulab is pleased to launch a comprehensive welfare policy (exclusively for employees on Italian payroll at the moment). This initiative enhances our commitment to employee well-being while optimizing fiscal efficiency, allowing for increased net spending power and access to valuable benefits. Below are the key benefits team members can expect:
Full availability at the start of the year: Employees have access to the entire welfare allowance at the beginning of the year, enabling flexibility to manage planned or unexpected expenses and optimize the use of benefits throughout the year.
Increased net spending power: Leveraging welfare benefits, which are fiscally efficient compared to taxable income, maximizes employees' net spending potential.
Growth with career progression: The welfare package is designed to scale with salary increases, ensuring that benefits grow in line with employees' career advancements.
Example of increased net spending power and fiscal efficiencySofia, a Nebulab employee, receives €1,000 through the company’s welfare program. Instead of being taxed as regular salary, this amount is delivered as a non-taxable benefit, allowing Sofia to retain the full €1,000 to spend on eligible expenses such as education, healthcare, and leisure activities. If Nebulab had paid Sofia the same amount as salary, the total cost to the company would rise to approximately €1,400 due to taxes and contributions, leaving Sofia with only about €600 after deductions. By leveraging the welfare program, both Sofia and Nebulab benefit from greater financial efficiency, enabling higher net spending power and more meaningful use of resources.
Commitment to Income Stability
At Nebulab, we are committed to ensuring that the welfare program enhances each employee’s financial well-being. To support this, the allocated welfare amounts are securely managed and tracked within our HRIS system.
For employees who do not fully utilize their allocated welfare benefits within the fiscal year, the program offers flexibility to maximize their value. Residual amounts flagged as eligible for alternative use can be:
1. Carried forward to the following year, ensuring employees have extended opportunities to benefit from the program.
2. Transitioned into taxable income, where permissible under applicable regulations, maintaining the overall value of the benefit.
This approach safeguards the intent of the welfare program—enhancing employee well-being—while providing flexibility and reassurance that allocated resources will always contribute to income stability.
Key Components of the Welfare Policy
This policy applies exclusively to employees on Italian payroll, ensuring alignment with local regulations and fiscal opportunities.
The benefits are available independently, allowing employees to utilize them without any interdependency. Each benefit operates autonomously, in alignment with the internal scheme of application, company bylaws, and the terms outlined in each employee’s individual contract. Below is a detailed description of the program to provide clarity and help you maximize its value.
Fringe
Nebulab provides fringe benefits as part of its welfare program for employees on Italian payroll. These benefits consist of specific products and services that act as substitutes for cash, offering additional financial flexibility. Employees receive a pre-set allowance to spend through a Visa Debit Card, enabling easy access and seamless management of these resources.
These benefits are subject to specific tax regulations. As of 2025, the Italian Budget Law has set the following tax-free thresholds for fringe benefits:
€2,000 for employees with financially dependent children.
€1,000 for all other employees.
Welfare
Nebulab also offers a welfare program for employees on Italian payroll, designed to complement the fringe benefits plan. This program provides additional allowances tailored to enhance work-life balance and support personal and family needs.
Allowances can be spent directly using a Visa Debit Card for leisure activities, including:
Cultural Activities, Courses, and Subscriptions: Online courses, museum tickets, language courses, streaming services, and magazine subscriptions.
Fitness: Gyms and sports facilities.
Relaxation: Spas, amusement parks, concert tickets, and guided tours.
Travel: Hotels, B&Bs, cruises, campsites, travel tickets, and tour operators.
Wellness: Medical and dental expenses, psychological support, beauty treatments, spas, massages, and wellness services.
If you cannot use the Visa Debit Card—for example, if the provider does not support POS payments—you can request a reimbursement by submitting a valid receipt. Furthermore, specific expenses outlined below can be reimbursed directly through the welfare platform.
Public Transportation: Monthly or annual passes and public transportation cards for you and your family.
Education: Nursery and primary school fees, tuition for schools and universities, textbooks, and school transportation for your family.
Family Assistance: Support for dependents over 75 or non-self-sufficient family members, including hospital care, transportation, and services at healthcare facilities (RSA).
Meal Tickets
Nebulab provides meal tickets to selected employees on Italian payroll as part of its welfare program. These tickets can be used for food and beverages at restaurants, supermarkets, and grocery stores. Each meal ticket is valued at €8 per working day and offers tax advantages as it is exempt from income tax up to the statutory limit.
Meal tickets are offered to the vast majority of employees. However, eligibility may depend on local availability of merchants where the tickets can be used, as well as specific terms outlined in individual contracts. Exclusions may also be based on individual bargaining agreements or personal preference.
We encourage all the team members to reach out with any questions or clarifications needed.
